Maiden's Tower



Left: Maiden's Tower, Baku's most famous landmark dating back, at least, to the 12th century and possibly much earlier. Right: The Hajinski Residence was built by Isa Bey Hajinski (1862-1918) a wealthy landowner who discovered oil on his property and who also owned a kerosene refinery in the "Black City". It was constructed in 1912. In 1944 Charles de Gaulle stayed overnight in this residence en route between Tehran to Moscow where he met with Stalin.
